The Oxford English Dictionary provides a couple of dozen definitions for the word print, but there was one that provided a pretty decent summary of “the print.”
The OED defines the prints as “a picture or design made from an inked impression of an engraved metal plate, wooden block, lithographic stone, etc. In later use also: a printed reproduction of an image, esp. of a work of art.”
